Pleasantville

Well, today is Honey's last day of being off-track.  He was going to sub today but took too long to decide about it when they called and it hung up on him.  So we dropped our little minions off at school while we went and finished the grocery shopping together!

And yesterday's root canal?  No prob, bob!  The valium didn't make me feel funny or tired, but it did help me to not worry about what they were doing at all.  I didn't even notice the smells that usually upset me!  I also took my iPod along, and I swear, it seemed like they were done in 1/2 an hour!  (It actually was twice that, but not the 4 hours that my last one took so, YAY ME!)

So everything is nice, I developed a plan to help me not be overwhelmed by reading for my course (it's only 20ish pages a week, but they're VERY intense pages), and now I'm going to go kick some booty at a card game we got for Christmas from Honey's brother & wifey!  (THANK YOU AGAIN, M!!!)

Answered Prayers!!!

Man, I have been praying all morning for this, that, and the other and every single one of them has been answered!  Think I should go for a house while I'm at it?  Nah... don't want to press my luck.

I got off to a bad start this morning.  Running a little later than usual, already in a panic about my pending root canal this afternoon, freaking out that I'm not going to get to the car place before everyone else in the universe does and that I'll have to spend all day there waiting for some super-expensive repair, still freaking out about the root canal, freaking out that D will have an accident while we are running around, freaking out about getting everywhere on time... WHEW!  It's hard work being me!

So after I drop everyone off at the appropriate school, the prayers start.  First it's: "Please don't let them be busy at the car place (even though I am literally 2 blocks from the place and I probably should've asked before then), please don't make it so I have to spend 4 hours there..."  And as I round the corner, NO CARS ARE IN THE BAYS!!  They're just doing inventory!!  So I tell Rick that his favorite customer is here and what the dealio is, and he tells me it's something much less expensive that can be done at the tire place (which I have to go to anyhow to get new tires on account of mine nearly bursting at the seams).  But it's been since November that we had an oil change, so I have him do that.  And find out I need a CV boot replaced.  Not bad!  All told, $120 bucks.  And while I was waiting?  The drill sargeant called.  They had a cancellation, can I come in at 1:50 instead of 3:50?  HELL YES!

So now I'm not worried about the car, and I'm not worried about childcare.  Now, I'm off to the tire store.

Nobody's there, either!  I get hooked up with my tires to the tune of $335.  Everything's balance, the steering isn't shaking like a 6.5 earthquake anymore, and I still have time to run home and write this little blurb and change my shirt that I spilled sauce on!  Leaving me with a grand total of $45, which I deposited so I could run around the corner from the tire place to Costco and load up on their cheap gas.

Spankyou very much!  I'm doing fabulous!!  (the 6mg of Valium probably helps, too!)

Ok, gotta run.  I'd be back later, but I'll be under the influence of extreme pain from the sadist named Dr. Lee.

Toodles!

FINALLY!!!

Ever since Motorola came out with the KRZR, I wanted it.  It's so pretty, and loud, and I like the design.  A lot.

I swore this phone would be mine, and today... it is!  After wrestling with our wireless provider to get this kink or that straightened out, I was finally able to go into the store and get it for FREE!  Ok, technically we had to pay $27 in tax, but that's a lot better than the $349 that it retails for, or the $149 promotional price with the $50 rebate making it $99, plus the $27 in tax.

It's so pretty!  I love it!!!  I had to re-enter all my contacts by hand, but WHO CARES?!?!  I have a new toy to play with!!  I'm regretting declining the free month of V-CAST, but it saves me the trouble of having to remember to call up and cancel it.

Ok, I have to head out to playgroup and the dentist now.  You all have a nice day, because I know I will!!

MMMMMMMMMMMWAH!!

Amazing

So, last night was our Ladies Night group for Enrichment.  The woman who hosted it lives out in the country, and as I was leaving I saw the most amazing sights...  I could see Venus, two stars in the Orion constellation that I'd never noticed before, Cassiopia, and many, many other stars and constellations that don't show up as well where I am.

Can ABC's Extreme Home Makeover give me that?

What To Do?

Sigh.

I just got an e-mail from one of my friends in the ward telling me that she's noticed that my boys don't walk home from school together.  S apparently lags quite a bit behind B.  Which would be no biggie if we lived in a different world, but we don't.  It's important to me for so many reasons that they continue walking home from school rather than me picking them up.  Regardless of whether or not I pick them up or they walk home, they have pretty well no physical play time on school days.  They get home, we pick up dad, we come home, they have piano practice & homework, I make dinner, we eat, they dress for bed and prayer and lights out.  Five days a week.  I'm sure some of my family and maybe even a few of my friends would say to just let them stay up later, but it is NOT an option.  I know these boys and I know that if they get any less sleep than they already do, it's unhealthy for everybody.  They also need a physical outlet for some of their natural boy-nergy which we have no location for it here.  We set boundaries around our building about where they can go outside and play without us, and as they've gotten older and respected those rules I was considering letting them go down to the park in the middle of the complex for short periods of time without us.

Until today.  Today changed everything.  That stupid email... I know there are some predators in our neighborhood, the town I live in is a fricking dumping ground for them.  I figure, they're walking home down a main road with every other kid in the neighborhood, we've had the stranger danger talk (not all strangers are scary, they usually look normal, etc.) it's only a couple of blocks, the chances of them being harmed on their way home are pretty small, right?

Apparently not.  Today I find out one of them lives in the building right before the gate they use to come home.  Right here in the complex.  I think this is why the Lord softened Honey's heart about putting saving for a move over paying extra on our debt (which is what we'd rather do except we really need to move).

I'm so angry.

Still Laughing

Um, you really must take a look at this.

Just thinking of all my dear friends who will appreciate how thoroughly... oh, nevermind.  Just go look at it.

A Tisket, A Tasket

So, I started school last night.

Yay, me!

And this time I didn't want to run away.  I didn't care what my family was doing without me at home, I didn't care if I was missing what was on t.v., and I didn't care if I was the oldest one in the room (I wasn't).  Turns out, there's actually a kid from the ward in there!

Now I just have to figure out if using a visit to the Temple for my religious observation paper is kosher.  It's not a tell-all kind of thing, but all the other churches in town got snapped up first.

Does anyone know if there are any Zoastarian Temples in California?

Hi, it's me. Ok, well this is the part that's about me. I was born in California, moved to Utah, lived there my whole life, got married and moved right on back to CA. There's no snow here, you know. Not where I am, anyway. If you deduced that I'm LDS because I grew up in Utah, you're correct. No, I didn't move because it was stifling, I moved because of the snow. Can't you read? Anyhow, I have a perfect husband, three engergizer bunnies, I mean sons, and live in an apartment somewhere near where George Lucas grew up. The beach keeps calling my name, but the gas pump is too loud for me to hear it, so if anyone knows anyone who can get a couple of new refineries built, let me know. I'm all for taking care of the earth and everything, but, c'mon... when are they going to make a minivan or SUV hybrid that you can afford on one measly teacher's salary? Exactly.
